Barton Law strives to make everyday Earth Day as a green-minded law firm

Barton Law strives to be a green-minded law firm by being conscientious of our paper use, utilizing technology, and helping to restore our national forests. A study by the Arnold & Porter law firm in Washington, D.C. found that the average lawyer uses 100,000 sheets of paper per year. That's about 10 trees per year per lawyer! While it seems impossible to create an entirely paperless law practice, we can take steps to reduce our paper use significantly, which ultimately benefits the environment and our clients.

In addition, as part of our ongoing commitment to exercise green-minded practices,

Barton Law has vowed to plant a tree in memory of each of our clients' loved ones to honor their memories and help restore our national forests for present and future generations.

In order to help be a part of the solution, we have implemented the following practices:

  • Cloud-based practice management system with back-up,

  • Secure online portal to send/receive confidential documents in lieu of printing,

  • Save e-mails, documents and files to cloud-based storage to reduce printing and client paper files,

  • Utilize digital research sources and virtual CLEs, and save educational resources/books in PDF format to eliminate unnecessary printing,

  • Reduce use of legal pads,

  • Encourage emails, calls and video appointments where appropriate,

  • Provide flexibility for client communication through calls, texts, e-mails, video meetings and in-person meetings,

  • Maintain smaller office space, reduce storage needs, and reduce size of client paper files

  • Restore our national forests through our tree planting initiative

How does a green-minded law firm benefit you?

  • Better service,

  • Easier and quicker access to attorney,

  • Ability to send/receive confidential documents from home with peace of mind using secure portal,

  • Increased attorney productivity by reducing time on retrieval and sorting through physical files,
